Angry Teens and Kids: Is It Just A Phase? ? talktala:_

Andria Lindquist

?

Kids, and particularly teenagers all go through that phase of being over dramatic and angry for seemingly no apparent reason. However, ?a recent study from the Journal Archives of General Psychiatry says that 1 in 12 teenagers could be suffering from a serious anger disorder known as Intermittent Explosive Disorder (IED).

This disorder involves episodes of aggression and/or violence or threats of violence. It can begin around the age of 12, but scientists still don?t know whether it continues into adulthood, according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

In this large study, researchers interviewed 6,483 teens and surveyed their parents. They found that 7.8% teens had at least episodes of IED in their lifetime. Scientists are still trying to find out more information about this disorder and find the answers to questions like, ?which kids grow out of this and why??

Are you dealing with a child or teenager who is going through change and challenges and is acting out as a result? We would love to hear from you about your experience, an will be happy to connect you to the appropriate group subjects that may help.
