6 Trends You Can Choose From When Acquiring Modern Bedroom ...

Furniture trends have continued to change over the years as consumers look for new styles to suit their desires. The modern look has continued to evolve and new designs come up every day. Some of the new modern furniture looks like it would be at home in outer space, while others look like anything other than what they are.

It is not unusual to see a bed that looks like a space ship, or a hollowed out egg. Young consumers, who are more tech savvy than ever before, are looking for unique items and the more unusual the furniture, the better. Below are some trends that are becoming a common feature in modern homes.

1. Technology inspired furniture
Modern technology is playing a major role in furniture creation, both from a manufacturing and a design perspective. Bedroom furniture that looks like it belongs in the future is not uncommon. The furniture is fitted with smart gadgets that can turn the room into an entertainment or communication center. The new furniture is designed to be both functional, and versatile enough to accommodate all the gadgets that have become part of modern life.

2. Green furniture
Environmental awareness has had a big impact in every area of life, and that includes the creation of modern furniture. Those who are environmentally conscious are looking for modern furniture pieces that have a low carbon footprint and are made with recycled materials. People will spend a lot of money to ensure that they buy environmentally friendly furniture.

Awareness of the impact of environmental degradation and the effect on climate change has led to demand for green furniture. There are manufacturers who are catering to this niche market by producing furniture from recycled and renewable materials. This trend has also led to the shift towards buying locally produced furniture.

3. Multi-purpose furniture
Mazzali: "Xian" wardrobe / l'armadio "Xian" . Bedroom and living area
There is a huge demand for multi-functional modern furniture as people look for convenience and versatility. A bed that can serve as a sofa, or a wardrobe that doubles up as a bed, offer consumers the versatility they desire. It allows people to reduce the items they have in the home, while also ensuring that they have everything they need.

Instead of having an extra bed that you rarely use, you can use the furniture for another purpose, only converting it into a bed when you have guests. The desire for furniture that can have multiple uses has also risen out of the smaller living spaces. People are living in smaller apartments than ever before and they are looking for ways to fit all the furniture they need in the small homes. The bedroom furniture pieces come with extra storage space to reduce clutter.

4. Smaller furniture
Another result of the smaller spaces is the demand for smaller pieces of furniture. The standard bedroom in a regular apartment cannot hold too many large pieces and people are looking for ways to get all the furniture they need, while still leaving space to move about in the room.

Modern furniture is less ornate than traditional furniture, and the streamlined designs take up less space. Some of the modern furniture pieces can be folded away when not in use, creating more space in the room. Simple plain headboards are replacing the elaborate headboards that are a common feature in traditional designs.

5. Customized furniture
As people look to infuse their style and individuality into their homes, custom-made furniture is becoming a popular option. This trend allows people to get furniture that is unique and different from anything out there. They are able to combine unusual materials and to create shapes and designs that are unique and in many cases strange.

It is not unusual to find someone with a bedroom set that represents their favorite hobby or activity. Bedrooms with a sports or movie theme are popular choices. Several designers in the market specialize in creating customized furniture for customers looking for that individual unique look.

6. Asian inspired furniture
As the world becomes much smaller, people are adopting cultures from other parts of the globe. One of the most popular modern furniture designs is the Asian inspired design. The Asian furniture, and especially that of the Japanese, has always been very modern with block colors, straight, sleek lines and minimal adornment. This furniture has become very popular with modern design lovers around the world.

Shocker Alert: New York Times Writer Pines for ?Progressive? 19th ...

The New York Times had a real doozey of an op-ed today ? one longing for the good ole days of publicly funded canals, highways and airports, and urging heavy-handed government monopoly regulation of our communications networks to ?improve? our supposedly crummy, cartelized communications marketplace.

It?s an instant New York Times classic. ?You?ve got network providers equated to drug dealers. ?We read how, through the supposed failure of the greedy U.S. broadband ?cartel,? France and other under-developed countries are easily surpassing our (don?t say exceptional) country in broadband services and speeds. ?We see the gratuitous connection of the ?cartel? to the work of its ugly lobbyists.

In short, you?ve got all the progressive dog-whistle stuff that makes the New York Times so ?great? for its readers.

And yet so atrociously wrong.

Let?s get real here.? Since 1996 ? when government monopolies of communications networks were essentially outlawed by Congress ? the growth of our broadband networks represents a truly remarkable American success story.? Over the past 15 years, industry figures show that more than $1 trillion of private investment ? or about $73 billion per year ? has flooded onto America?s broadband communications landscape.? Consequently, in any given market, instead of finding just plain old telephone service (POTS), broadband access is universal.? In fact, 99% of Americans can access at least one flavor of facilities-based broadband ? be it DSL, cable modem, fiber, cable-fiber hybrids, satellite, broadband over powerline or wireless services ? through any one of the 1,556 broadband providers across the U.S.

But wait, there?s more.? U.S. broadband infrastructure didn?t just change and become more innovative for itself, it helped forge whole new markets, too ? such as the smartphone, the tablet, the cloud, Facebook, YouTube, Pandora, etc. ? enabling an $8 trillion exchange of goods and services each year.

It?s also made the American worker among the most productive and competitive in the world, and which, according to some government-cited estimates, has propelled 15% of our GDP growth since 2004.

Could this Internet ecosystem success story have occurred in a heavily regulated, 19th?Century model as advocated by the author?

No.

As FCC Chairman, Julius Genachowski, noted last year, ?Over the past 15 years, the Internet has enabled as much economic growth as the Industrial Revolution generated in its first 50 years.?? Not coincidentally, this explosion occurred in an environment marked by deregulation ? one which plainly, clearly, forever (one hopes) jettisoned 19th Century monopoly communications regulation. ?Stated differently, that growth did not happen by virtue of heavily regulated POTS.

The progressive lament that the marketplace stinks is perennial as the change of seasons.? In their view, only through cartels of policymakers, wielding coercive regulations, can network providers be made to be ?truly competitive.?

Gee.? That worked, didn?t it?

Not.

FDR-era laws, which codified 19th Century regulation, is no way to serve the public interest in the 21st Century.? Rather, as we?ve seen over the past 15 years, the advance of technology, consumer education tools, industry best practices, and marketplace guidance is far better suited to meeting the evolving needs of consumers than any ?well meaning? law seemingly pined for by the author.

The market will continue to grow and improve, and consumers will continue to enjoy tremendous value and benefit from the Internet ecosystem, as long as we can avoid going back to the ?progressive? 19th Century.

Strengths: ?One of my main focuses is practicing at a high caliber, high intensity day in and day out,? said coach Kaela Yuen. ?I truly believe practice should be harder than the games. Practice is about mental and physical preparation, so I expect my girls to do everything at game speed, with game-type focus.?

?We have a lot of size,? said senior Marlo Cafarelli.

?It?s basically the same team from last year, and we have really good chemistry and everyone knows what their role is,? said captain Kris Brackmann.

Focus: ?We have been putting a lot of new offensive principles in, so we there is a learning curve and there will obviously be mistakes,? said the coach. ?I try to focus on controlling the controllables, which means ensuring the girls are giving 100% effort on the floor.?

?We want to leave with a bang and leave it so the other girls can carry on the tradition,? said Brackmann.

?It?s a different philosophy, but not a lot of big changes,? said Cafarelli about the team?s new head coach. ?We want to take it as far as we can.?

Republican lawmakers said they were even more troubled after face-to-face meetings with her over the handling of the Sept. 11 deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. (AP Photo/ Evan Vucci)

(AP) ? A moderate Republican senator, vital to any White House hopes of getting U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice confirmed as secretary of state, said Wednesday she couldn't back any nomination until more questions are answered about the deadly Sept. 11 attack in Libya and Rice's State Department role during the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombing in Kenya.

In a fresh suggestion of eroding GOP support for Rice, Sen. Susan Collins of Maine emerged from a 90-minute, closed-door meeting with the ambassador voicing new criticism of her initial account about Libya. Collins also questioned what Rice, the assistant secretary of state for African Affairs in the Clinton administration, knew about requests for enhanced embassy security before the Nairobi truck bombing.

Pressed on how she would vote if President Barack Obama names Rice to succeed Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Collins said, "I would need to have additional information before I could support her nomination."

At the White House, Obama called Rice "extraordinary" and said he couldn't be prouder of the job she has done as U.N. ambassador. Cabinet members joined Obama in applauding Rice, who attended the meeting. Obama has not named a replacement for Clinton, who has said she intends to step down soon.

The misgivings from Collins, the top Republican on the Homeland Security Committee, came one day after three other GOP senators said they would try to block Rice's nomination. Sens. John McCain of Arizona, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire said they were more troubled than ever by Rice's answers on Libya even though the ambassador conceded that her much-maligned first explanation was wrong.

In an unusual move, Rice and acting CIA Director Michael Morell have held two days of private meetings with Republican senators in hopes of assuaging their concerns. Privately, Senate Republicans said they had hoped the conversations would quiet the criticism as they want to avoid the spectacle of a postelection challenge to a female African-American nominee.

Instead, the sessions have cast further doubt on her chances for the top State Department job and increased the likelihood of a protracted fight if Obama does choose her. Although Democrats will have 55 votes in the next Congress, the president would need the support of five Republicans to avoid a filibuster of the nomination.

Collins said she was troubled by Rice's "political role" in downplaying the Libya attack as a spontaneous demonstration over an anti-Muslim video rather than a terrorist attack by al-Qaida affiliates in a series of Sunday talk show appearances on Sept. 16 ? five days after the attack and weeks before the election.

U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed in the raid on the U.S. diplomatic mission.

Rice has said she was relying on talking points provided by U.S. intelligence.

Introducing another issue certain to be fodder for any confirmation battle, Collins said she pressed Rice about security at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi in 1998 when a truck bomb was set off outside the facility, killing more than 200 Kenyans and 12 Americans.

"What troubles me so much is the Benghazi attack in many ways echoes the attacks on those embassies in 1998 when Susan Rice was head of the African region for our State Department," Collins told reporters after the meeting. "In both cases, the ambassador begged for additional security."

Collins said Rice told her she was not involved directly in turning down the request for improved security. The Maine senator said that in light of Rice's position, she had to be aware of the general threats and U.S. Ambassador Prudence Bushnell's requests for security upgrades in Kenya.

Review boards headed by former Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, Adm. William J. Crowe after the Aug. 7, 1998, bombings of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania did not find reasonable cause that any U.S. employee breached his duty in connecting with the bombings. Rice was not blamed.

However, Crowe said the boards believed there was a "collective failure" by several administrations and Congress over a decade to invest adequately to shore up vulnerable U.S. diplomatic missions around the world.

Rice has emerged as the front-runner for the top job at State though Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry, D-Mass., passed over for the job in 2008, is considered a strong alternative.

In a clear message to the White House, Collins said Kerry would have no problem winning Senate confirmation.

"I think John Kerry be an excellent appointment and would be easily confirmed by his colleagues," Collins said.

Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee, who is in line to become the top Republican on the Foreign Relations Committee, was more circumspect about Rice's chances after his own meeting with the ambassador.

The GOP senator suggested that Obama "take a deep breath and nominate the person he really believes is the very best person for secretary of state, regardless of relationships."

Corker, who traveled to Libya in early October, was highly critical of the administration and the intelligence community, saying that "the whole issue of Benghazi has been a tawdry affair."

Democrats have rallied to defend Rice, casting the Republican criticism as political scapegoating.

"You know it's a shame to create a sideshow that seems, I think, very clearly to be very political out of something that really has no bearing on what happened in Benghazi," White House spokesman Jay Carney said Wednesday.

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., a member of the House Intelligence Committee, called the criticism a "transparent attempt" to deny Obama a potential Cabinet choice.

The issue remained at the forefront as the Senate, in debating a defense policy bill, approved an amendment by McCain that would lead to an increase of up to 1,000 Marine Corps personnel to provide security at U.S. diplomatic missions around the world.

Ukraine leader signs law to change constitution via referendum

KIEV (Reuters) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich on Tuesday signed a law enabling constitutional change via referendums instead of via parliament, in a move the opposition criticized as aimed at ensuring his own re-election in 2015.

Yanukovich's Regions party, which approved the new law this month, looks set to secure a slim majority in the 450-seat parliament in the wake of elections on October 28, a handful of results of which have yet to be finalized.

The party's support fell compared with 2007, however, putting Yanukovich's chances of re-election in 2015 in doubt.

To boost those chances, opposition leaders say Yanukovich may use the new law to amend the constitution - via a referendum and not via parliament - to scrap presidential elections and let parliament pick the head of state via a simple majority vote.

Some analysts said he may even use the law to push through policies that his party, backed by influential local industrialists, would not support.

"The president could only do this (change the way he is elected) in dire circumstances," said Mykhailo Pohrebinsky, an analyst at the Kiev Centre of Policy Research.

"This law provides a way to push through decisions which are not supported by the elite but supported by the population. One issue that can be realistically put up for referendum is the question of (joining the Russia-led) Customs Union."

Russia has long urged Ukraine to join Belarus and Kazakhstan in its post-Soviet trade bloc but Kiev, which is instead seeking a free trade agreement with the European Union, has repeatedly refused.

The new law says a referendum must be held if signatures are gathered from at least 3 million people from different regions of the country and then called by the president or parliament.

It is unclear whether the public would approve a motion to give parliament the right to pick the president, however.

Prior to the new law, amendments to the constitution had to be approved via a two-thirds majority in the house, which Yanukovich's Regions party is unlikely to win.

The opposition has said it will challenge the new law in the constitutional court.

Yanukovich quickly consolidated power after becoming president in 2010, installing loyal allies in key positions and successfully challenging an earlier constitutional reform in order to lessen his dependence on parliament.

His re-election chances have been hurt as Ukraine's economy, which had been growing since early 2010, shrank 1.3 percent in year-on-year terms in the third quarter of this year as steel exports fell.

In a move condemned by the West, a local court last year sentenced his main opponent, former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko, to seven years in prison on charges of abuse of office.

Sony Xperia Tablet S sneaks onto shelves, finally

Sony Xperia Tablet S sneaks onto shelves, finally

The Sony Xperia Tablet S has quietly gone on sale without any of the fanfare, or even a press release, usually associated with a product becoming available.

After swiftly being pulled from shelves at the start of October due to water damage issues, Sony has kept to its promise to re-release the Xperia Tablet S before the end of November ? just.

The tablet was launched at IFA 2012 back at the beginning of September, and the update to the original Sony Tablet S does have some promise, as we found in our hands on Sony Xperia Tablet S review.

Just in time for Christmas

Keeping the unique folded-back-book design of its predecessor, the Xperia Tablet S offers up a slimmer, lighter frame which is easier on the hand, a 1.4GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, the choice of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models, all of which run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

There are also Wi-Fi and 3G variants of the tablet available, and currently via the Sony website you can pick up the 16GB model of each, with the Wi-Fi only tablet setting you back ?329 and the 3G capable slate coming in at ?429.

The 32GB Wi-Fi and 64GB Wi-Fi models are currently displaying as out of stock, but are priced at ?379 and ?449 respectively.

However, during its time out of the customer?s sight the Xperia Tablet S has seen some rather tough competition crop up in time for Christmas, with the iPad Mini, Amazon Kindle Fire HD, Nook HD, Google Nexus 10 and larger-capacity and cellular Google Nexus 7 all vying for attention.

Storage Unit Security: the Basics - Relocation Tips

Storage Unit Security: the Basics

?

Working in the storage industry as I do, I?ve had a Google Alert set up to email me any mentions of self-storage in the media. While I?ve been able to keep abreast of industry news this way, I?ve also been shocked to discover how many storage unit break-ins happen nationwide. Now, when viewed against the total size of this massive industry, only a miniscule fraction of storage facilities ever experience crime?and as we all know, bad news sells papers, so when something does happen it?s bound to be hyped by the press. But the fact remains that storage unit robberies do happen?despite how easy they are to prevent. The problem is a lack of customer awareness.

If you?re going to pay upwards of $50 a month for a storage unit, you probably place a lot of value on the things you store. And if you value those things so highly, you?ll want to make sure they?re safe. Here are some easy, basic tips that will make your storage unit virtually impregnable.

Choose the right facility: go for a facility that offers 24/7 video surveillance. Cameras deter criminals and help capture them after they?ve committed the crime. Ask the facility manager if they employ security guards at night. Some facilities feature units where the lock is built into the door?these are extra sturdy and safer from the elements as well. Any facility should be surrounded by a security fence over 8 feet high as well as a gate that closes at night. Climate controlled units are almost always housed inside one large building, meaning that there?s an extra door for a thief to get through. These extra amenities will often cost extra, but if you?re storing anything of high value then the expense is certainly worth it.

?Get the right lock: we highly recommend disc locks. These are much harder to break than padlocks as the shackle is much less exposed to thieves and their bolt cutters. If you can?t go with a disc lock, find a padlock of the highest quality materials?nothing but boron or stainless steel will do.

Make your valuables hard to find: hide valuable items in the back, behind and underneath less valuable items like furniture. While labeling your boxes is a good idea for staying organized, you might want to make up a code for what?s really inside?thieves will go for a box labeled ?jewelry? right away. This is especially important as thieves will often target units they know to contain valuable contents?if someone sees you moving that box of jewelry into the unit, they might decide to come back and take it. Just don?t forget your codenames.

Change your codes if they get out: if someone else learns your access codes, you?ll need to change them right away. Divorce is a common cause of storage crime: a jaded ex-spouse might not agree with the judge?s division of belongings and could attempt to reclaim their property. If you?ve recently gone through a divorce, change your codes and keys to prevent this from happening to you.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) ? A former space shuttle commander whose twin brother is married to former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will attempt the longest spaceflight ever by an American.

NASA astronaut Scott Kelly and Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko will spend an entire year aboard the International Space Station beginning in 2015.

Both countries' space agencies announced the names of the two veteran spacefliers on Monday. The extended mission was approved almost two months ago to provide a medical foundation for future missions around the moon, as well as far-flung trips to asteroids and Mars.

Both men already have lived aboard the space station for six months. NASA wanted experienced space station astronauts to streamline the amount of training necessary for a one-year stint. Officials had said the list of candidates was very short. They will begin training next year.

"Their skills and previous experience aboard the space station align with the mission's requirements," Bill Gerstenmaier, head of human exploration for NASA, said in a statement. "The one-year increment will expand the bounds of how we live and work in space and will increase our knowledge regarding the effects of microgravity on humans as we prepare for future missions beyond low-Earth orbit."

Kelly's identical twin brother, Mark Kelly, retired from the astronaut corps last year and moved to Tucson, Ariz., his wife's hometown. The former congresswoman was critically wounded in an assassination attempt in January 2011, while Scott Kelly was living aboard the space station.

Astronauts normally spend about four to six months aboard the space station. The longest an American lived there was seven months, several years back.

Russia, though, will continue to hold the world space endurance record.

Three cosmonauts spent at least a year aboard the old Mir space station. A Russian physician, Valery Polyakov, logged nearly 15 continuous months there in the mid-1990s.

Boris Morukov, head of the Moscow-based Institute for Medical and Biological Problems, Russia's main space medicine research center, told the Interfax news agency that communications and food rations for Kelly and Kornienko may be limited during their yearlong mission to better simulate interplanetary travel.

Kelly and Kornienko will launch aboard a Russian rocket from Kazakhstan. Americans must buy seats on Russian spacecraft now that NASA's shuttles have retired to museums, until private U.S. companies have vessels capable of carrying human passengers. That's still four or five years off.

Kelly is a 48-year-old, divorced Navy captain with two daughters. Kornienko, 52, a rocket engineer, is married with a daughter.

"We have chosen the most responsible, skilled and enthusiastic crew members to expand space exploration, and we have full confidence in them," Russian Space Agency chief Vladimir Popovkin said in the announcement.

Gabby Giffords' brother-in-law to spend year in orbit

2014 Ford Fiesta gets MyFord Touch with a bigger screen, simpler Sync voice commands

For all of Ford's emphasis on Sync, it's hard to deny that Fiesta drivers usually sit on the bottom rung of the automaker's technology ladder when they're denied MyFord Touch and the related perks of larger vehicles. Pick up the keys to a higher-spec 2014 Fiesta, however, and you'll be in for a treat. The compact will stuff a 6.5-inch touchscreen and MyFord Touch into the center stack, with a few software upgrades over what we've already seen in cars like the Focus and Fusion. The highlight is undoubtedly the more direct voice command system -- the Nuance-driven recognition no longer demands that we specify music categories or radio formats to start playing tunes. Bluetooth smartphone pairing and navigation by address should be streamlined at the same time. Motorists will have to wait until 2013 to reap the rewards, but it could be worth the wait to drive away with Ford's better electronics in an affordable ride.

5 courses on a Saturday night ? Red Devil in the Kitchen

This past Saturday?we had our neighbors over for no other reason than to get together, eat some delicious food and drink ample amounts of wine.? Some pizza was?baked for the kids who were sat in front of the TV while we enjoyed ourselves.

Most of the time?I?make up my own menu/dishes for when we have guests over, but for Saturday?I decided to pull recipes straight?out of?cookbooks from two chefs whose food I greatly admire.? It wasn?t that many years ago that making four dishes from a Charlie Trotter or Thomas Keller cookbook would be a daunting task for me to pull off.? These days?it?s merely a matter of lacking funds and time to prepare dishes from books like these.

The only exception to using a cookbook was the first course, a charcuterie?board which had duck?p?t? and duck rillettes that I?d made earlier in the week to share at a friend?s house for Thanksgiving.

Charcuterie board

The compotes were apricot-ginger and cranberry-cinnamon-star anise.

For the second course I made Oysters and Pearls from Thomas Keller?s French Laundry Cookbook.? A friend of mine has kind of been?on me for some time to make this dish, so I decided?this would be a good occasion.? My friend isn?t lying when he claims this is one of the top five dishes he?s ever tasted.? I was unable to procure the caviar and it was still an amazing dish, and not all that hard or time consuming to prepare.? While the tapioca was soaking in the milk I was able to get a lot of the items ready to complete the dish (like shucking and cleaning the oysters, steeping the milk and cream with the oyster trimmings, whipping the cream).? Assembling the dish to serve isn?t all that bad either:? while you?re preparing the sauce you can reheat the ?pearls?.? I cannot recommend this dish enough; sadly though I forgot to take a picture though I know plenty abound on the Internet.

The third course I made was chestnut soup with foie?gras from Charlie Trotter?s Meat and Game?cookbook.? I actually waited to buy the chestnuts the day after Thanksgiving which was no doubt a mistake; I didn?t find them until I hit my third grocery store, and even there I was buying the very last of what they had, literally the bottom of the barrel.? This is another dish I can?t recommend strongly enough.? Rich, decadent, perfectly balanced are all words that come to mind when I think about how it tasted.? The other components of the dish are quartered chestnuts soaked in beef stock reduction, cipolline?onions, creme fraiche, preserved ginger, creme fraiche and?thyme leaves.? I paired this dish with a California Chardonnay, something recommended in the cookbook.

Chestnut soup with foie?gras, cipolline?onions, creme fraiche, and preserved ginger

For the fourth (and ?main?) course I wanted to do something different, and found that in Charlie Trotter?s Seafood?cookbook -?seared scallops with roasted mushrooms, Swiss chard, butternut squash, red wine and beef stock reductions and sage oil was a very nice and small dish after the richness of the soup.? The method for roasting the mushrooms enhanced the earthiness of the mushrooms.? And I really thought that all the components of this dish worked in unison:

The wine pairing?for the scallops was?an Australian Shiraz.

I was leaning towards doing chocolate for dessert,?such as?the chocolate terrine from Keller?s Bouchon?cookbook, before I came across the poached pear and chestnut custard napoleon?with an orange-pepper sauce and praline pecans in Charlie Trotter?s Desserts.? There were no complaints with this dish.? If anything I kind of messed up the orange sauce by not pureeing?it right after the pear was cooked while it was still warm which lead to it being thicker and needing to be thinned out more than I did do.? But it was still tasty.? I paired this with a late-harvest Viognier from Chile which had pear and apricot undertones and it worked quite well:

I?m not sure when the next chance will come around that I get to cook a ?fancy? meal, or even cook straight from cookbooks again.? Having the second child?limits the?amount of time for these types of luxurious activities.? But it is nice to?do though (cook from cookbooks that is) from time-to-time in order to be introduced to new?(at least to me)?methods and techniques (like the aforementioned roasting method for mushrooms).? With the Christmas holidays coming up though there will be an opportunity to do something different and new, though we?ve got a New Years? tradition of making cassoulet?(I make everything from scratch, including the Toulouse sausage and duck confit) and chocolate fondue.? I suspect I might throw in the oysters and pearls dish to start this year. . .

To People Who Want To Profit From Foreclosure Auctions ? But ...

business_law.jpg

The real estate market is in bad shape. Could be a good time to invest in foreclosures with a record number of foreclosures being reported. There are deals available to the general public but the trick is knowing how to find them.

Nothing is sweeter than finding the perfect foreclose property, in the perfect area, at the perfect price. Just one such investment property can easily earn you a years worth of income.

Buying that infomercial on television that tells you that is easy is not the way for successful real estate investing. There is a lot of homework that needs to be done before a foreclosed home is purchased at auction. The key to successful real estate investing is research. What you know will make all of the difference. If you want to be successful with foreclosures investing you have to be willing to spend more than a little time doing some homework.

Many successful investors try to get a steal on a house before the house is made available to the general public. Foreclosed homes are available in almost all areas of the country but some investors have a tendency to only look for properties within their general area. Some real estate investors have simply forgotten that a profit made anywhere is still a profit.

While researching a foreclosure online you can easily dig up all kinds of valuable information. If you are going to be bidding on a property you need to know what the market value of the home really is. There are a number of free services online that allow you to research the market value of a house for free.

Consider a forclosure list.

Time is money and the more time you can free up in your life means more time you can devote to becoming a successful real estate investor. Subscribing to a foreclosure list will save you many hours each week that you can then devote to making more money. Be sure to do some research and take advantage of the free trial period offered by each list service.

If you like to travel and see new places, you might consider looking for foreclosed homes in the country?s biggest foreclosure markets. Right now, Atlanta, Houston, and Denver have the hottest foreclosure markets anywhere in the United States. In fact, Atlanta has such a high rate of foreclosures that it is frequently shown on television as an example of the recent foreclosure boom. If you happen to have an internet connection you can easily find foreclosed properties in these areas to invest in.

With a little research and patience you can easily find foreclosure deals at auction. But if you really want to be successful in real estate investing, consider a foreclosure list service. Such a service will provide you with foreclosure deals as they come available and before they reach the auction block. The earlier you buy the property the better off you will be in real estate investing.

Bobcats Keep Wizards Winless With 108-106 2OT Win

WASHINGTON -- Byron Mullens scored 27 points, Ramon Sessions had 20 and Ben Gordon added 19 as the Charlotte Bobcats earned their seventh win of the season and kept the Washington Wizards winless with a 108-106 double-overtime victory on Saturday night.

Last season, the Bobcats went 7-59 in the lockout-shortened season, the lowest winning percentage in NBA history, but have already equaled that victory total in their 12th game.

Washington fell to 0-11 despite the spark supplied by Nene, who energized the Wizards during most of his 29 minutes, but in the end, the Bobcats pulled out the win.

Martel Webster had 21 points for Washington and Nene scored 19.

Reggie Williams' 3-pointer, his only points of the game, gave Charlotte a 104-103 lead with 1:18 to play. The Wizards were called for a 24-second violation with 15.2 seconds left. Sessions made one free throw and Kemba Walker had two for a 107-103 lead.

Bradley Beal made a 3-pointer to draw Washington within 107-106 with 1.6 seconds to go. Walker made one of two free throws with 0.8 seconds to play, and Jordan Crawford missed a long heave at the buzzer.

The Bobcats appeared to have won the game in the first overtime, but Chris Singleton was fouled by Charlotte's Jeff Taylor as he attempted a 3-point attempt with 0.4 seconds to play. Singleton made the first, missed the second and converted on the third for a 99-all tie.

Nene returned to the game with just over four minutes left in regulation and Washington trailing 88-83. The Wizards scored the last six points of regulation to force the first overtime.

After missing the first nine games of the season with a foot injury, Nene played well in Washington's overtime loss to Atlanta.

In its first 10 games, Washington lost by an average of seven points. The only game in which the Wizards were totally uncompetitive was their 16-point loss in Charlotte on Nov. 13. Three of their 11 losses have been in overtime.

Nene came in with 3:08 to play in the first quarter as Charlotte was nearing the end of an 11-0 run to take a 25-12 lead with 2:14 to play.

He hit two free throws and sparked a 12-0 run to end the quarter, passing to Emeka Okafor with 14 seconds left in the first for a three-point play to cut Washington's deficit to 25-24.

After Nene hit on a three-point play and left the game with 9:30 to play in the second quarter, Washington had a 30-27 lead. Shaun Livingston hit two free throws with 8.2 seconds left in the first half to enable the Wizards to lead at the break, 51-50.

Nene began the second half on the bench as Charlotte quickly built a 64-53 lead four minutes into the third quarter.

He came in with 4:20 to play and along with eight straight points from Webster sparked Washington. The teams were tied at 72 after three.

NOTES: On Sept. 28, the Wizards announced that G John Wall would miss the first month of the regular season with a left knee injury. Coach Randy Wittman said that he won't hazard a guess on Wall's return. "I don't know where we're at. If I could give you a time, I would," Wittman said. "I have no idea. He has not practiced at all, so until that time comes, I don't know what the timetable's going to be." ... Washington F Trevor Booker missed his second straight game with a left knee injury. ... Charlotte G Gerald Henderson (sprained left foot) and F Tyrus Thomas (strained left calf) will continue to be out for "the foreseeable future," coach Mike Dunlap said. ... Three Bobcats ? Gordon, Taylor and F Michael Kidd-Gilchrist fouled out. ... According to STATS LLC., this was Charlotte's first double-overtime game since an Oct. 30, 2009, win over New York, and Washington's first since Mar. 23, 2011, when it lost to the Clippers in Los Angeles.

WooCommerce ? excelling eCommerce 1.6.5.2

The Lowdown:
Well I started a new on line business for my kid and decided that I would use this e commerce plugin for it due to all I had heard and seen. Wile it is pretty straight forward to setup and easy to use. I did find it missing some of the great features in WP ecommerce, I needed a couple of different options for shipping and payment that are not available without adding a plugin that cost a bit extra.

In fact as good as this plugin is most of the features that make it good are additional priced plugins

ShareYourCart 1.9.4

The Lowdown:
This plugin was to offer an interesting way for getting people to share you in their social networks, you set it to offer them a discount say 10% if they tweet or facebook their shopping cart. The discount was to be applied right as soon as the tweet of facebook post was made..
While this plugins was a great idea in theory, I found it to be a pain for my use, it would not layout correctly and it would not work correctly seems they have a ways to go. I will revisit it after they do an upgrade
